DIY: Game of Thrones Christmas Wreath

Winter is coming. And so is Christmas. So why not make your own Game of Thrones Christmas Wreath? Oh, and I forgot to mention, it’s super easy!

For me, it all started with a trip to my local Christmas tree farm. While my husband did all of the labor to cut down our beautiful tree, I chose the perfect fresh wreath from the farm’s gift shop. I had originally thought about trying to make my own wreath from scratch — but I’m so glad I didn’t do that! — I decided to save the time (& likely the frustration) and buy a pre-made, but fresh, Christmas wreath.

The great thing about decorating your own wreath is that you can use whatever materials you’d like. I’m obsessed with Game of Thrones and am currently re-re-re-watching the entire show, so it was a no-brainer that I went with a GOT theme for my wreath.

What you need:

To start, place your wreath on a flat surface. If you’re working with a fresh wreath, make sure to place a piece of poster board or newspaper underneath it to protect your working surface from sap.

Real Greens Wreath

Take your ultra-slim wire light set and wrap it around the wreath to your liking. I found my battery-powered light set in the Christmas aisle at Walmart. The great thing about this set compared to other fairy light packages is the green wiring which blends in with the green needles.

Since I planned to hang my wreath, I secured the battery pack to the back of my wreath using twine (it wasn’t the prettiest — but that’s why it’s on the back!).

Next, I placed and secured my large bow in the upper left corner of my wreath. (This was just my preference, but feel free to place it wherever you prefer.)

Space your four GOT house ornaments out along the edge of your wreath. Once you have the spacing you like, loop a long piece of twine through the metal ring on top of the ornament and tie it using a double knot to one or two branches, topping it off with a dainty bow. Based on your preference, trim the twine tails to your liking.

This last step may be optional depending on how you plan to display or hang your wreath. For mine, I chose to place a Command strip hook above my kitchen window. Since my wreath was too thick to hang on the hook itself, I added a burlap bow to hang it from the hook itself. Full disclosure, I am not great at making bows! The most important tip I can give is to tie your bow with more ribbon than you think you will need, that way it’s not too short. Remember, you can always trim and even the ends of the ribbon when you are finished.

This turned out really nice! Most of my family are avid fans of Game of Thrones. I’m tempted to buy those ornaments for our tree.

They will definitely be a hit! Some of the house sayings are on the back of the ornaments.

This is so festive and clever Monica! Fresh wreaths alone are one of my all time favourite holiday decorations! They smell soooooo piney fresh and they’re just lovely to look at. Yours all decked out with Game of Thrones ornaments makes this even more amazing!!!!! Love love love!
It’s a minor house (and now, spoiler alert: all about wiped out) but I love House Tyrell (ouch my heart.) and I love love love heroes and do-gooders so I’m a total fan of the Starks.
