As an official blogger for the 2018 DICK’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, I received complimentary race admission and race gear for blogging about my training experience.
This Sunday… is my first-ever half marathon! From seeing Avengers: Infinity War last weekend to my upcoming race this weekend, I’m not sure how much more adrenaline my body can take. π But yes, I cannot believe that the 2018 DICK’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon weekend is upon us. Does anyone else feel like the month of April flew by?
If you haven’t been following my training updates, you can find part one and part two here (*spoiler alert:* running in the snow is no fun). Overall, I’ve felt like these last few months of training have gone well. Yes, it was cold. And yes, I had to find a way to push past my hatred of treadmills. But training for the half marathon has forced me to focus on my health and wellbeing. Prior to beginning my race prep, I was in a definite gym slump, but getting active these last several months has made me feel healthier, stronger, and happier.
But then last week happened. Yep, the cold that was going around my office found me and I was forced to take a break. Ugh. My week basically looked like this: tissues, soup, throat drops, my R2-D2 humidifier (not pictured), and Marvel movies. Sick time on the couch turned out to also be optimal prep time for Avengers: Infinity War! (If you haven’t seen the new movie yet, please do yourself a favor and go before you hear or see any spoilers!)
Although I went through at least a box and a half of tissues, I’m happy to report that I am on the mend and ready to go for race weekend. (Or as ready as I’ll ever be!)
The weather forecast shows sun, my geeky running playlist is fully loaded (you can find links to it on the Pittsburgh Marathon’s Blog), and my race day outfit is ready to go (find all of my geeky workout favorites here). While I’m already beginning to get race jitters, I’m also so excited to see and experience Pittsburgh on Sunday.
If you’re running this weekend during the DICK’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon or in another event, I wish you the best of luck and hope that you have a safe, fun experience! Follow my race weekend activities on Instagram as I visit the GNC Live Well Pittsburgh Health & Fitness Expo, attend the Race Weekend VIP Event, and get ready to take on my first half marathon.
May the force be with you (& me)!
So glad that you’re feeling a bit better. Good luck in your run!!

Thanks girl! I need it! π
I’ve always wanted to run a marathon (or even a half one haha) but my big issue is that I HATE running haha but my husband and I have recently gotten into it and I’m slowly starting to like it more and more. Hopefully I’ll get there someday!

You can definitely do it! I wouldn’t say I love running either, but each run gets easier! Pick one in the future and sign up! That way you have to work toward it. π
Good luck in your race! I’m sorry you were sick but glad that you are on the mend! I hope you have great weather and really enjoy the experience!
