Get ready to be excited! The first teaser trailer for Disney’s live-action Aladdin is here!
While it’s just a quick teaser video, we likely won’t get a full trailer until closer to the May 24, 2019 theatrical release date, we get our first look at the Cave of Wonders and its treasure, as well as a glimpse of three characters — Jafar, Iago, and our street rat, Aladdin.
Like many, I grew up with the beloved Disney classic movies. They are timeless creations, and I now own most of them on Blu-ray! Aladdin was always one of my favorites. I had the dolls, the costumes, and I even think I had a stuffed Iago?!
One of my most favorite things about the original Aladdin film is the music, led by composer Alan Menken (who also brought us some of our favorite songs from Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and Pocahontas). From A Whole New World to Prince Ali, the soundtrack to this film is so memorable. That’s why I am so excited that Alan Menken is back to help with the music of the new live-action movie!
Similar to the Beauty and the Beast live-action remake with Emma Watson in 2017, Menken will be working on the Aladdin soundtrack by bringing back our favorite melodies and adding a few new ones with the help of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, best known for their work on La La Land.
The film, set to hit theaters on May 24, 2019, is directed by Guy Ritchie. The cast includes Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Will Smith as the Genie, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, and Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders.
What’s your initial reaction?! Tell me in the comments below.

Me either! I can’t wait for the music!
I simply love the trailer. I can remember the brouhaha the film created during its casting. Loved that Disney stick to authenticity- regarding the physical attributes of the characters.

I agree – I can’t wait to see how the cast portrays each role! Hopefully the next trailer shows us a bit more!
I kinda think it’s funny how they do these “teaser” trailers that don’t really show much, like with Emma Watson in Beauty and the Beast and the trailer that was just a shot of the rose. But anyway, I’m excited to see what they do with it. It’s true that they’ve been doing a lot of live action remakes but I’ve loved probably half of them so I’m open to it!

It’s so true. These are almost not even trailers – just pure teases. I’m excited to see a longer trailer now though!
That looks like it is going to be great! I really enjoyed the live action Beauty and the Beast, so I hoped this is just as good!

Same! Beauty and the Beast was (and is!) my favorite! I loved seeing the film back on screens and Emma as Belle!
I honestly couldn’t be more excited about this film. Aladdin and Mulan were my favorite Disney animated movies as a kid (and as an adult haha) so I had high hopes. Of course, no one can replace Robin Williams as the Genie, but if anyone is going to bring justice to the role, it’ll be Will Smith. I’m quite thrilled about Naomi Scott playing Jasmine, as well. She’s phenomenal. And the fact that Alan Menken is doing the soundtrack – with the help of the La La Land guys – WOO. Can you tell I’m feeling pretty stoked about this whole thing??

Girl, the excitement is mutual! I can’t wait to see it brought back to the screen! I’m so curious to see how they do the Genie and how Will Smith does! And they are making plans to do a live-action Mulan!!!
I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS. Lol no chill whatsoever. I can’t wait for this to come out.
