SPOILER ALERT // If you haven’t seen Ant-Man and the Wasp yet, why don’t you check out my Ant-Man Sized Waffles recipe instead… this post contains spoilers.
Okay, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way… time to do a happy dance because Ant-Man and the Wasp is now available on Blu-ray! No surprise, I picked up the Marvel Cinematic Universe edition and have been watching it and listening to the soundtrack since I brought it home.
I think Luis sums up the plot the best…
Dr. Pym, I actually heard what happened to you. You opened up the Quantum Realm. That’s when this crazy, creepy ghost who like walks through walls and stuff stole your tech. Now she wants to take over the world, or whatever. Who would have believed that in your hour of need you would turn to us.
Well, I’m not sure that he got the entire movie right… but his stories are some of the best parts! Admit it, you read that quote really fast like Luis, didn’t you?
One thing that totally caught my eye in Ant-Man and the Wasp was the Quantum Realm. Colorful, bright, ever-changing, we get to see more of the Quantum Realm in this movie as Dr. Pym enters the void to search for his wife, Janet Van Dyne.
And we also get to see it in that heart-stopping after-credits scene when Scott enters the Quantum Realm during an experiment… only to get trapped there when Thanos snaps his fingers, turning Hank, Janet, and Hope into dust. (I told you there would be spoilers.)
But enough of the sadness — I can’t handle how many characters we’ve lost since April!
If you ask me, a little geek baking can cheer up any situation. And the colors and kaleidoscope-like designs sure do make for some awesome Quantum Realm sugar cookies. So are you ready? We’re going subatomic in 3, 2, 1…
Quantum Realm Cookies // A Marvel Recipe Inspired by Ant-Man and the Wasp
What You Need:
- Sugar cookies
- Royal icing
- Gel food coloring, multiple colors
- Toothpicks
Start by preparing your favorite sugar cookie recipe. I chose to cut my cookies out in standard circles, but that’s only because I couldn’t find my Tardigrade cookie cutter…
Next, prep your royal icing. (I chose to follow this recipe from Wilton.)
Now it’s time to get your icing supplies ready. In a bowl, acting as your paint palette, add drops of gel food coloring to have at the ready. Set a napkin and plenty of toothpicks nearby, you’ll use them for your icing designs.
Lay your cool cookies out on a piece of wax paper, and using a round icing tip, flood the top of your cookies with white royal icing.
Next, while your icing is still wet, it’s time to create your Quantum Realm designs. To do this, take a toothpick and dip it into the gel food coloring of your choice. Then, place the the tip of your toothpick with coloring on it in the white royal icing, swirling the tip of the toothpick to spread the color throughout the white icing. Repeat the process to add more of the same color or use a new toothpick to add a new color to the mix. Don’t be afraid to swirl your colors into each other, if you’ve chosen like-colors, the results will be complementary.
I chose similar colors for each cookie to create my icing swirls. My combinations were: purple+pink, yellow+green+blue, yellow+orange+red.
Once your cookie is covered in beautiful colors, using your remaining white icing, add 3-5 small dots throughout the cookie. Using a clean toothpick, dip the the tip in the center of the white dot and drag it though the icing to create a point. Remove the toothpick, wipe it on a napkin, and repeat the process to create another point in the opposite direction. Repeat the process until your white dot is now a sparkling star shape.
For your remaining white dots, repeat the star process or swirl into the other colors, but don’t fully blend the white away.
Let your icing dry completely and enjoy.
We’re now ready to enter the Quantum Realm, just be sure to look out for time vortexes…
Oh my goodness! This looks simple enough to do with my galaxy obsessed boys and they’d have a lot of fun doing it. Weekend plans!

They would love it! They are so easy and fun to make! It felt more like painting them icing decorating! And it was way more forgiving.
I do love a good bit of marvelling… Oops, I mean Marbling! π Great post π They look great

YES! I love it. And thank you!
These are so fun! I still need to see this movie. I’ll have to whip these up to go along with movie night π

Oh, I definitely recommend this for your next movie night! And what’s a movie night without a few snacks? π
Your cookies are so pretty! I’m hoping to watch a bunch of Marvel movies in December, including Ant Man and the Wasp. I’m pinning these so I can make them for one of our movie nights!

So fun! I’m planning to bring back a Marvel movie marathon in preparation for Avengers 4 in the spring! You should watch along! π
These are really cool (and who doesn’t love sugar cookies)! I love that they seem like mini works of art! Very creative.

Thanks Patricia! I am definitely NOT a painter, so this was as far as my “painting” abilities go!
I love how these look! At the library where I work our next summer reading theme is space/the universe, so I feel like I could do this with blues, blacks, and purples and it would be perfect.
I was also so sad at the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp. Ugh!

You totally should! I think there is also edible glitter that some people add to give the cookies a more “galaxy” touch. And I’m right there with you – that ending totally punched me in the gut!
These cookies look too amazing to eat.

LOL – I sometimes am hesitant to eat things I make because I know how much time and effort it took! But luckily, these were super easy, so I didn’t feel obligated to make them last.
