Higher, Further, Faster — DIY Captain Marvel Ornament Set

You know it’s a good week when a new Marvel trailer is released.

The excitement all started on Sunday when Brie Larson shared a new movie poster for 2019’s Captain Marvel, the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I mean, would you look at that hair. That suit. That power.

After Brie, aka Carol Danvers or Captain Marvel in the upcoming film, shared the new poster and teased that a new trailer would be arriving the following day to make our Monday a little less painful, many of us sat on pins and needles waiting for it to be released.

And, well, no disappointment here!

Let’s just stop to appreciate Captain Marvel’s quote toward the end of the trailer:

“I’m not gonna fight your war, I’m gonna end it.”

And since I’m all hyped up on new Marvel trailers (that’s the best kind of hype), I decided to add a little Captain Marvel to my holiday decor.

Yes, I did already make a Captain Marvel pumpkin this fall, but Christmas calls for new decorations! AJ and I chopped down our Christmas tree this weekend — okay, AJ chopped it down — and this evening I made new ornaments that catapulted my Christmas tree decor to a higher, further, faster level…

That’s right. Today on the blog, I’m sharing how to make Captain Marvel Christmas tree ornaments.

DIY Captain Marvel Ornament Set

What You Need:

• 3 red glass ornaments
• Gold glitter vinyl
• StrongGrip transfer tape
• Higher/Captain Marvel Logo File — DOWNLOAD
• Further/Captain Marvel Logo File — DOWNLOAD
• Faster/Captain Marvel Logo File — DOWNLOAD
• Cricut Explore Air II and cutting accessories (mat, weeder, scraper)

First, download the three Captain Marvel logo files found in the list above and load them into Cricut Design Space.

Next, measure your ornaments and determine how wide/tall you’d like the decal to be. For my ornaments, I chose to make each piece 3 inches tall.

Place the gold glitter vinyl on your grip mat and follow the instructions on your screen to cut the decal.

After the cut is complete, weed the extra vinyl off of the white backing.

Apply StrongGrip transfer tape over your piece of gold glitter vinyl and vigorously use the scraper to adhere the transfer tape to the glitter vinyl. Note — glitter vinyl is more challenging to transfer, so make sure you scrape both the back and front of your decal if you’re having challenges getting the tape to stick.

Once ready, slowly pull the gold decal off of the white backing using your transfer tape.

Carefully place the decal where you’d like on your ornament and smooth out any bumps or air bubbles starting in the center and pushing them out to the edge.

Once the decal is secure and smoothly placed, slowly peel off the transfer tape.

Repeat the process for each of the three different decals to create your Higher, Further, Faster ornament set.

PROJECT TIPS (aka learn from my mistakes!):

• When applying your decal to your ornament, be careful not to let the transfer tape stick to your ornament too long, and be careful not to remove it too quickly when pulling it off. Depending on the type of ornament that you have, you may run the risk of pulling the color off your ornament off. Whoops!
• Applying vinyl to round objects can be tricky. If you’re having spacing issues when applying your decal, cut the decal into three pieces (top of starburst, bottom of starburst, and words), and apply them one at a time.
