DIY: 2019 New Year’s Eve Headband — Game of Thrones Style

Last year, I received my Cricut from my husband as a Christmas gift. It was a complete surprise, I never knew he even knew what it was!, and I’ve had so much fun creating fun and geeky DIYs this year! One of the first things I made with my Cricut was a 2018 geeky headband, inspired by Star Wars! Because why wouldn’t you want to start the new year out with the force?

With NYE right around the corner, I knew I wanted to make a 2019 geeky headband to wear at my exciting party (aka playing board games with friends). This year there were so many themes to choose from — Marvel, Harry Potter, LOTR, Star Wars, Stranger Things, Wonder Woman — but in the end, I went with Game of Thrones, because winter is coming.

2019 is going to be a great year for movies and TV shows, but when I say I’m so excited for more Game of Thrones, I’m also so sad that it’s the FINAL SEASON! I don’t even want to think too much about what is going to happen to some of my favorite characters… regardless, my 2019 NYE headband is all about Game of Thrones this year.

Check it out and make your own to celebrate the new year and the final season!

Make Your Own Game of Thrones New Year’s Eve Headband

What You Need:

  • Plastic headband
  • Silver glitter cardstock paper
  • Black cardstock paper
  • Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
  • Regular glue stick
  • 2019 Game of Thrones Cutout Files — DOWNLOAD 1 (top piece) & DOWNLOAD 2 (bottom piece)
  • Cricut Explore Air II (or a similar machine) and cutting accessories (mat, weeder, scraper)

If you have a Cricut, you can access this project on my Cricut Design Space profile.

First, download the 2019 Game of Thrones files (found in the list above) and load them into Circuit Design Space.

Size the top piece (with visible numbers and logos) at 5.45 inches width by 2.23 height and cut it out on your black cardstock paper. Weed the pieces off of your mat and set aside. NOTE: some of the cuts of this file are very intricate, be careful when removing it from your mat.

Size the bottom piece (which serves as the background of the headband) at 6.03 inches width by 2.66 height and cut it out on your silver glitter cardstock paper. Weed the pieces off of your mat and set aside.

Use your regular glue stick to glue the top black number on top of the corresponding silver number, centering it so that there is equal glitter showing on all edges.

TIP: Place the glued numbers between the pages of a heavy book while they dry for several minutes to help the top pieces stick to the glitter cardstock paper.

Next, fold the tabs on the silver glitter cardstock to create “stands” for each of the numbers.

Place a small dot of hot glue on the bottom of each “stand” and place each of the numbers to your headband. Let the glue dry entirely and then you’re ready to try on your 2019 NYE crown.

Brace yourselves, NYE is coming…

This makes me wish I had one of those cutting machines! That’s incredible! :O I could probably still do it without but I am not sure I have the patience! Happy 2019! (Can’t wait for the Game of Thrones Finale!)

Your headband looks great and you should wear it again for the premier of Game of Thrones this year! Like you, I’m excited for it and also scared for my favorite characters.
