Winter is here… at least it is in Pittsburgh! We got lots of snow this weekend, and it was honestly so peaceful. Since we had no place to be, we stayed in and watched the snow fall from our window and re-watched a couple episodes of Game of Thrones.
Of course, Anzu made us play out in the snow quite a bit. He love, love, loves the snow – just like a true Northerner. So this weekend’s DIY was for Anzu, my little direwolf, who is patiently waiting for the final season of Game of Thrones.
Make Your Own Game of Thrones Dog Bandana (No Sewing Needed!)
What You Need:
- Black iron-on vinyl
- White bandana
- HeatnBond Ultrahold Iron-on Adhesive
- Dog collar
- Direwolf in Training File — DOWNLOAD
- Iron
- Measuring tape
- Cricut Explore Air II (or a similar machine) and cutting accessories (mat, weeder)
Start by smoothing out any wrinkles in your bandana with a hot iron.
Lay your bandana out flat and measure your desired triangle size. While the size of your bandana will vary based on your dog, I chose to make Anzu’s finished bandana roughly 10 inches long from the tip of the triangle to the middle of the long side. Note: before cutting your fabric, make sure to account for an extra 2 inches or so of material to allow for fabric to cover the collar.
For Anzu’s bandana, I found it easier to cut a square with each side 12.5 inches in length. Next, I cut the square in half into two triangles, the long side of the triangle sized at approx. 16 inches in length.
Flip your bandana over so that the back of the fabric is facing up. Cut a piece of HeatnBond Ultrahold Iron-on Adhesive and place it along the top edge of the long side of the triangle with the paper side of the adhesive facing up. Run a hot iron over the adhesive to adhere it to the fabric. Once it has cooled, remove the paper backing. Next, fold the long edge down over the adhesive, approximately 1.5-2 inches. Ensure that enough space will be available for the collar, and then use an iron to adhere the adhesive to the fabric to make a loop for the collar to be inserted.
Once the adhesive has cooled, slip the collar through the loop.
Download the Direwolf in Training file (found in the list above) and load it into Circuit Design Space.
Size the file at 6.5 inches wide. Cut out a piece of iron-on vinyl and place it on your Cricut mat with the plastic side facing down. Note: make sure to mirror your image before cutting, otherwise your image will be backwards when you iron it on the fabric. Once the design is cut, weed the extra pieces, anything that is not part of the design, off of your mat.
Once you are left with only the design on the plastic, place it where you’d like it on your bandana with the words facing up. Place a thin cloth on top of the plastic and use your iron to adhere the design to the fabric. Run your iron over the area for 10-12 seconds at a time. Flip over your bandana, place the cloth on top of it, and then iron the back side. Once the bandana has cooled, slowly pull off the plastic to leave the design on the fabric.
This little direwolf loves the snow… those white walkers better watch out!
The North remembers…
When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives.
So I don’t have a dog nor do I watch Game of Thrones… that being said, my brother is obsessed with the show and hoping to get a dog someday. So if he does this would make a great gift!

Thank you so much, Emma! <3 I love thinking up geeky DIYs to do on the weekends. I've never made anything for Anzu, so I knew that needed to change, because winter is coming... 🙂
I don’t watch GoT, but I have so many friends who do, and I’m sure they would LOVE this for their pets. It’s adorable!
