I hope everyone is ready to eat loads of popcorn because 2019 is FULL of movies and TV shows that look amazing! Yes, movie tickets aren’t as cheap as they used to be, and yes, Netflix may be raising their prices — but these films and shows make it all worth it.
Today I’m sharing my 19 most anticipated movies and shows of 2019… 19! You may think that’s a big number, but it was actually hard to trim the list down! (Don’t worry, my honorable mentions are listed at the bottom.)
19 Movies and Shows to Look Forward to in 2019 (Ordered by Release Date)
March 8 — Captain Marvel
It’s no surprise that Captain Marvel made the list. After all, many of my recent posts have been in honor of Carol Danvers.

April 5 — Shazam!
I’ll be honest, I think this movie looks pretty funny! Let’s see if Flynn Rider, I mean, Zachary Levi, has what it takes to be a superhero.
April 14 — Game of Thrones, Season 8
I cannot wait for season 8! But I also do not want my time in Westeros to end! Prepare for the final season with one of these throne-worthy DIYs.

April 26 — Avengers: Endgame
Okay, I’m making my declaration. Avengers: Endgame is my MOST ANTICIPATED movie of 2019! I have been waiting for this since Infinity War, and now it is finally in sight. Countdown to Avengers 4 with me and join me in a Marvel Movie Marathon! Find the watch schedule and all the details here.

May 10 — Detective Pikachu
I’m a little surprised that this made the list, but the trailer totally made me smile. I’m also playing Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! on the Nintendo Switch, and my appreciation and understanding of Pokémon is growing. I’m in!
May 24 — Aladdin
I LOVE Disney’s live action remakes. Aladdin has always been one of my favorite Disney movies, so I cannot wait to revisit this world and listen to the music!

June 7 — Dark Phoenix
Jean Grey AND Sansa Stark? Yep, I’m in. I’ve always been a fan of the X-Men movies, so I can’t wait to see how Jean’s character evolves in Dark Phoenix.
June 14 — Men in Black: International
I’ll be honest, I’ve definitely seen the original MIB way too many times. I wasn’t a huge fan of the other films, but any movie with Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson as the lead duo has my attention! Don’t believe me? Just want Thor: Ragnarok.
June 21 — Toy Story 4
I’ve been crying since Andy donated his toys to a new home in Toy Story 3. Let’s just say I’m ready to cry again in Toy Story 4, and I’m so happy the toys are back.

July 4 — Stranger Things, Season 3
Who else is excited to go back to Hawkins, IN? Good thing Netflix is releasing ST3 on a holiday, we will have ample time to binge.

July 5 — Spider-Man: Far From Home
Three Marvel movies in one year? I’ll take it! Now we just have to wait on wonder where Far From Home takes place in the MCU timeline.
July 19 — Lion King
Another Disney animated classic with a unforgettable score… is it too early to buy tickets? π
August 2 — Fast and Furious presents: Hobbs and Shaw
Okay, confession time. The Fast and the Furious series is one of my guilty pleasures! Dom says it best, “It don’t matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning’s winning.” Enough said.
September 20 — Downton Abbey (The Movie)
The elegance, class, and drama are coming back, but this time to the big screen! I’ve recently been re-watching the original series (it’s available on Amazon Prime!) and I am totally ready to learn where these characters are now.
November 22 — Frozen 2
Yep, I am totally a Frozen girl! I can’t wait to spend more time with Anna, Elsa, and Olaf — and hopefully we’ll get a few new jams! I love ‘Let It Go’ as much as the next little girl, but I’m excited for some new tunes.
December 13 — Untitled Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle Sequel
I’ve always loved the original Jumanji, and when Welcome to the Jungle was released last year, I loved it almost as much. Can’t wait to laugh a little more, especially if it’s with the Rock, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan.
December 20 — Star Wars: Episode IX
Episode IX…. Rey. Kylo (or are we calling him Ben now?). Poe. Leia. Rose. Finn. BB-8. I don’t know if I can wait until December for this one!
TBD — Big Little Lies, Season 2
I was HOOKED on the first season of Big Little Lies, and now HBO is bring us S2 with the original cast + Meryl Streep! Timing is TBD, but you’ll definitely want to watch this one.
TBD — The Crown, Season 3
Last year, I totally binge-watched the first two seasons of The Crown, and when I reached the end, I was totally bummed. Can I please get some more royalty?!
Honorable Mentions
There you have it! My top 19 picks for movies and shows in 2019. And since this list was harder to cut down than I had initially thought, I know I’ll likely be spending many nights at the movie theater (with a bag of popcorn and a slushie).
There were many movies that did not make the list that totally look awesome! Here are my honorable mentions for 2019 movies — I’m sure there will be many more that join this list that I am not yet aware of!
- Alita: Battle Angel
- Dumbo
- Hellboy
- Godzilla: King of the Monsters
- John Wick, Chapter 3
- New Mutants
- The Joker
- The Untitled Terminator Movie
- The Untitled Kingsman Movie
- Little Women
- Fargo, Season 4
- The Mandalorian (Timing TBD, but I’m hoping this is released in 2019!)
What are your top movie and TV show picks for 2019? Let me know what you’re looking forward to seeing in the comments below!
I’m excited about most of these as well! I don’t think I even realized they were making another Jumanji – so I just got extra hype reading this haha! And the MIB movie is gonna be freaking fantastic of course!

Right?! I need some laughs in my life, so those two movies will be on the watch-list for sure!

You better start booking your babysitters! There are seriously so many movies I hope to see in theaters this year. And I’m glad to hear that someone else appreciates the Terminator movies! I’m interested to learn more about this new one.
I am SO ready for an amazing year of movies! I can already tell I’m going to love Captain Marvel, Endgame and Far From Home, and I am SO excited to see how Detective Pikachu, Toy Story 4, Frozen 2 and The Lion Kind turn out!
Author
SO MANY MOVIES! I totally agree — I’ll take all the Marvel movies they’ll give us, and the animated movies look so cute! Detective Pikachu seriously makes my heart hurts. He’s too cute.
So. Many. Marvel. Movies. I honestly cannot wait!!

SAME SAME SAME! Can it just be March already so we can watch Captain Marvel?!
Game of Thrones is on the top on my list, but I’m enjoying True Detective at the moment. (Although I’m one episode behind.) I’ve been trying to catch up on Marvel Movies, but I still have a lot to see. I always enjoy your movie and TV show themed DIYs!
Author
I’ve been meaning to start True Detective! I really liked the first season, but the second one not so much. Hoping this season is a good one though! And thank you so much — I’m glad you enjoy them! <3
So many good shows and movies coming out this year!! Especially early in the year!
Author
I know! I hope I can keep up with all of them!
So many awesome picks! I can’t wait for Avengers, MIB, Downton Abbey, Star Wars, and like all of these!
Author
Same! I have been re-watching Downton Abbey lately and I am so excited for the movie!
Captain Marvel is at the top of my list! Then Frozen 2, Star Wars, and Aladdin.
Author
Same! Only one more month!
I don’t think I can see Lion King again.. you can only witness seeing Mufasa’s death so many times.
Author
So true! I’m willing to risk it just so I can hear the music. π
This is literally so spot on!! I have almost the exact same list! π Thanks for the great roundup!
Author
Great minds think alike! (or at least watch movies alike!) I just hope I can keep up with this rigorous movie-watching schedule.
I am so ready for GOT, Avengers, Star Wars, and Big Little Lies (I loved the book). I definitely see a lot of TV time in my future.
Author
I have yet to read the book, I’ve only seen the show! I need to add that to my list this year.
This is a good list! I think Avengers: End Game may be my most anticipated movie ever, unfortunate for Captain Marvel that it doesn’t get the excitement it deserves. I watched Age of Ultron last night so I’m now 11/20 before Captain Marvel, smashing the marathon.
GoT also highly anticipated, I feel a 7-season marathon coming on before that comes out!
Author
Totally agree! We are set to watch Age of Ultron next. And I recently re-watched GOT this fall — totally worth it before the final season!
