I’m still mourning the loss of one of my favorite characters, Daenerys Targaryen.
You know, Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons. Oh, and QUEEN of the seven kingdoms.
(It doesn’t matter how long her reign lasted, it still counts.)
And with the sun at full blast, I’ve donned my most recent DIY to shade my eyes and express my sorrow.
DIY Mother of Dragons Sun Hat

- OPTIONAL — Cricut Explore Air II and cutting accessories (mat, weeder)

Select your favorite sun hat in the color of your choice, just visit Customized Wear to get a customized hat for you. Depending on the color you chose, your paint color may need adjusted to have good contrast. If you’re looking for an affordable sun hat option for this project, I recently purchased mine at Walmart for less than five dollars! You can’t beat that.
When you’re ready to start your project, download the file found in the list above and cut it out using your Cricut Explore Air II (or by hand). The size of your hat will determine how big to cut your letters. For my hat, I sized my Mother of Dragons phrase at 10.5 inches wide.
Discard the letters and use the remaining piece as a stencil (see photo above). Tape this stencil piece onto the brim of your hat where you’d like your letters to be. Then, using a silver Sharpie, fill in the shape of each letter (see photo below). Once completed, remove the tape and your stencil.
Next use puff paint and paint over the marker guides on the brim of your hat. Use a toothpick to smooth any edges or clean up any stray paint.
Tip: Practice writing with puff paint on a napkin or piece of paper BEFORE painting your hat.
Let your paint dry completely before moving.
