DIY Stranger Things Coffee Mug

Mornings are for coffee and contemplation.

And that’s even more true today as I JUST finished season 3 of Stranger Things! Yes, I know that S3 has been out for about a week and a half — aka what took me so long to watch it all? It’s called a marathon, right?

Well, not necessarily in my house. If you follow me on Instagram, I recently opened up about a point of contention in AJ and I’s marriage — should we binge TV seasons or spread them out? LOL — Yes, I know this is a minor issue in the scheme of things, but when it comes to Stranger Things, it’s a hot topic.

My full explanation of our “to binge or not to binge” dilemma is on the Instagram post below (along with my Stranger Things ice cream sandwiches with waffles and maple ice cream!), but in a nutshell, I like to marathon multiple episodes of a show in one sitting and AJ likes to watch one episode at a time.

Alas, this is the reason why I have just finished S3 a week and a half after it’s release on Netflix.

Now that I’ve finished S3, it’s all I can think about!! No spoilers in this post, but if you haven’t watched or finished it yet — you must!

And with Stranger Things on my mind, it’s only natural that I needed to make a DIY. So this morning, I’m contemplating S3 with hot coffee and my DIY Stranger Things mug, inspired by Hopper’s memorable quote in S1:

Mornings are for coffee and contemplation.

DIY Stranger Things Coffee and Contemplation Mug

What You Need

  • Plain white coffee mug
  • Black vinyl
  • Coffee and Contemplation Text File — DOWNLOAD
  • Transfer tape
  • Cricut Explore Air II (or a similar machine) and cutting accessories (mat, weeder, scraper)

Download the “Coffee & Contemplation” file (found in the list above) and load it into Cricut Design Space. Size your file accordingly based on the size of your coffee mug and proceed to cut it out on black vinyl. (For my mug, I chose to size it at 5 inches wide.)

Once your vinyl is cut, carefully weed off the extra pieces. Then, using transfer tape, adhere your vinyl phrase to your mug.

If your mug has a curved shape that is not straight up and down, like mine, you may want to place some of your words or letters on individually to aid in the phrase staying straight as it wraps around the mug.

I feel like Stranger Things is one of the few nerdy things I haven’t gotten into yet, haha! I do love the mug though, and that’s a great quote.

We LOVE Stranger Things!! This is such a fun, and simple idea that can be used for a few references from the show. Thanks for sharing!
