Happy Birthday to our favorite boy wizard! Today, July 31, is Harry Potter’s birthday — and I’m celebrating with an easy (and tasty) birthday treat — inspired by Hagrid’s birthday cake for Harry in the Sorcerer’s Stone!
Truth be told, I think cake is a little overrated. Yes, I did just make an imitation Aunt Petunia cake from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, however, I largely prefer cupcakes or cookies! That’s why I love turning Hagrid’s heartwarming and homemade birthday (or birthdae) cake into a giant cookie cake! I first made this giant sugar cookie turned birthday “cake” at my Harry Potter brunch and now it’s a tradition to bake one each July!

Harry Potter Birthday Cookie Cake
What You Need:
- 2 rolls of pre-made sugar cookie dough
- 1 jar of hot pink frosting
- 1 large tube of green icing
- Round baking pan
Let’s be honest, the best part about this treat is that you CAN’T mess it up! The messier your icing, the better. We’re going for Hagrid style, remember?
Using a round baking pan, spread out two rolls of pre-made sugar cookie dough. (I had a little left over and kept that for snacking.) Bake according to the directions on the packaging, but you may need to add a few more minutes to bake all the way through depending on how thick your cookie is.
After your cookie is out of the oven and cooled (slightly warm to touch), frost the cookie with hot pink frosting (mine is from Pillsbury).
Next, spell out the HAPPEE BIRTHDAE HARRY message in green icing – and don’t worry if your letters are cramped or disorganized, they’re supposed to be!
And there you have it! A BIRTHDAE cookie cake that Harry and Hagrid would approve of.
“I mighta sat on it at some point, but it’ll taste all right.”
So cute!! Cookie cakes are the yummiest ever!
Doing this on a cookie is brilliant! I did it as a cake once. I was going to do it again because we’re having a Harry Potter party at work tonight, but I had over 100 kids signed up so that would be a lot of work! We ended up just ordering a sheet cake but will be writing “Happy Birthday Harry” on it.
omg such a creative idea!! And now i want cookie cake haha
I’m crazy about the fact that this is a cookie cake! And a sugar cookie cake, no less – the best kind of cookie around! I’m so excited to try this for my next event. I want to do so many HP-related things in the near future!
