Whether you’re planning a Detective Pikachu movie night or a Pokémon birthday party, no event would be complete without some Pokémon treats!
Recently I shared a recipe for Poké Ball cookies that are adorable, simple, and a big hit!
But what’s a poké ball without a Pokémon?! Pair your batch of Poké Ball cookies with these cute Pikachu cupcakes.
Pikachu Cupcakes — The Perfect Pokemon Trainer Treat
What You Need:
- Cupcakes (you choose the flavor!)
- 2 sticks of salted butter, room temperature
- 1 lb. of powder sugar (~1/2 bag), sifted
- 1 tsp. of vanilla extract
- 2-4 tbsp. milk
- Food gel coloring — yellow
- Icing bags
- Icing couplers
- Star-shaped icing tip
- Printed Pikachu cupcake wrappers — DOWNLOAD
- 8.5×11 black card stock paper, several pieces
- 8.5×11 yellow card stock paper, one piece
- Toothpicks
- Scissors
- Tape
Prepare and bake your cupcakes (you choose the flavor!).
Next, prepare your icing. In a large bowl or in a stand mixer, combine the softened butter and the vanilla. Mix until well blended on medium speed. Next, slowly add your powdered sugar, mixing until incorporated. Add the milk and continue mixing at medium speed until thoroughly blended. Lastly, add your desired amount of yellow food coloring and thoroughly mix to create an even color throughout your frosting.
Prepare your frosting bag with your icing coupler and star tip. Place your frosting bag in a glass and fold the edges of the bag over the edge of the glass. Fill your bag with your yellow icing. Remove it from the glass, pressing the icing to the bottom of the bag. Now, you’re ready to frost some cupcakes.
Frost your cupcakes in a circular pattern, then set them aside while you prepare your Pikachu decorations.
For the cupcake decorations, print out the Pikachu cupcake wrappers (learn to draw Pikachu wrappers here) and cut them out. Then, use your scissors to add a scalloped shape to the top edge. Next, tape your cutout Pikachu piece to the black card stock paper and trim down the edges, leaving a small border on the top edge (see picture below for reference). Finally, carefully wrap your completed Pikachu wrapper around an iced cupcake, using tape to secure the ends in the back. (Note — depending on the height of your cupcake, you may want to trim your wrappers to be shorter in height.)
Next, for your Pikachu ears, cut out thin rectangular pieces of yellow card stock paper, about two inches in height. Round the ends, bringing one side of the rectangle to a point. Then cut a small piece of black paper and tape it to the end of an ear. Repeat to create as many ears as needed. Tape a toothpick to the back of each ear and then stick two in the top of a cupcake.
And there you have it — Pika Pika!
