Spider-Man Donuts with Edible Decorations

Spidey fans have a lot to celebrate this weekend! In case you missed the big news… Tom Holland and Spider-Man are staying in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! *HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH*

Knowing that we get to keep our Peter around awhile longer makes me even more excited to purchase Spider-Man: Far From Home this Tuesday on 4k Blu-ray! So to celebrate the great news and the upcoming home release, here I am, your friendly neighborhood geek baker, sharing an easy treat for your Far From Home movie night.

*BONUS* No baking required!

Decorate Your Own Spider-Man Donuts

What You Need:

Donuts and Icing

  • Plain donuts
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 tbsp. milk
  • Red food gel coloring

Edible Spider-Man Decorations
Note: Make sure you prepare these the night before you plan to decorate your donuts!

  • 1 tbsp. of meringue powder
  • 1 1/3 c. of powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp. of water
  • Black food gel coloring
  • Spider-Man stencils — DOWNLOAD
  • Parchment paper
  • Icing bags
  • Small, round icing tip
  • Toothpicks
  • Tape

First, prepare your edible Spider-Man decorations.

*Be sure to prepare these ahead of time, as they take awhile to dry!*

Mix your meringue powder, water, and powdered sugar until stiff peaks are formed in your icing. Separate your icing into two bowls. Add black food gel coloring to one bowl and mix well. Leave the second bowl as white icing.

Prepare two icing bags with small round tips and fill them with your black and white icing respectively.

Print out the Spider-Man stencil sheet (found in list above) and tape it to your counter to keep it in place. Then, place a piece of parchment paper on top of it and secure it with tape. By doing this, you will be able to trace the shape (seen through the parchment paper) with your icing, helping you to match your desired Spider-Man shapes.

Starting with your black icing, carefully pipe the border of your Spider-Man eyes directly onto the parchment paper. Let the border of your eyes set for a couple minutes and then fill the centers with white icing, using a toothpick to fill in the corners and smooth any bubbles.

For your Spider-Man spider logo, carefully pipe black icing over the shape of the spider.

Repeat the process to create as many Spider-Man eyes and logos as you would like.

Let your decorations dry overnight. (This is the most important piece of advice I can give! If you don’t let them dry and harden completely they will be extremely fragile and will easily break.)

Next step, ice and decorate your donuts.

Bake or buy your favorite donuts. (We love our local donut shop, so I just picked up some plain mini donuts from them!)

Prepare your icing by mixing the powdered sugar, vanilla, milk, and food coloring in a small bowl.

Dip the top half of each of your plain donuts in the red icing and set them on top of a wire cooling rack with parchment paper underneath (to catch the excess icing drips).

Let your icing set for a minute or two and then, while the icing is still slightly wet, carefully place your hardened Spider-Man decorations on top of the donuts.

Let your icing dry completely before moving.

These look fantastic! And I’m sooo happy Spidey is back with the MCU for awhile. I knew they couldn’t actually let that happen…

I’m literally SO thrilled they came to an agreement and Peter will stay in the MCU – at least for one more movie. They left Far From Home on too much of a cliff-hanger to just cut him out haha! I love the idea of these donuts. They’re so cute, and they look delish!
