How to Make a Toy Story 4 Pie

Pack your favorite toys, it’s time to go on a road trip! That is, it’s time to join Woody, Buzz, and the gang on their summer road trip with Bonnie in Toy Story 4.

You can now bring home the newest movie in the Toy Story series on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD, which can only mean one thing — MOVIE NIGHT! About Toy Story 4

Woody has always been confident about his place in the world, and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. So when Bonnie’s beloved new craft-project-turned-toy, Forky, declares himself as “trash” and not a toy, Woody takes it upon himself to show Forky why he should embrace being a toy. But when Bonnie takes the whole gang on her family’s road trip excursion, Woody ends up on an unexpected detour that includes a reunion with his long-lost friend Bo Peep. After years of being on her own, Bo’s adventurous spirit and life on the road belie her delicate porcelain exterior. As Woody and Bo realize they’re worlds apart when it comes to life as a toy, they soon come to find that’s the least of their worries.

Toy Story Pie Tutorial

What You Need:

• Pre-made refrigerated pie crust, three rolls (one for the bottom crust and two for the top decoration)
• Pie filling — your choice!
• 1 egg white, beaten
• Clear vanilla extract
• Regular vanilla extract (brown in color)
• Food coloring — black, brown, green, red, yellow, blue, purple
• Pastry brush
• Paring knife
• Parchment paper
• Toothpicks
• Small brushes for decorating
• Woody and Buzz image — (I used this one)
• 1 piece of 12×12 card stock paper
• Scissors
• Pie pan

To start, print out the Woody and Buzz picture (found in the list above) and cut out each character’s outline. Trace the width of your pie pan onto your cardstock paper, then cut out the circle. Place your Woody and Buzz cutouts on top of the cardstock circle to find your desired placement, then tape the two pieces together to help the piece stay in place. It’s okay if your two pieces overlap, mine do, and I actually prefer that.

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.

Then, roll out one of your pie crusts and lay your cutout characters on top of the dough. Using a paring knife, cut out the shape, using your stencil to cleanly trace the shape.

Place the cut-out shape, which will serve as the base of your design, on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and set aside.

Next, cut out smaller pieces of the characters to use as smaller stencils when cutting pieces of dough. I started with both faces and worked my way down.

As your pieces are cut, brush beaten egg white on the top of your base piece of pie dough, and then place each of your detail cut-outs on top, lining up each of the pieces to reform the characters. (The egg white will help to hold the dough in place as you work.)

For smaller details like the shape of the eyes, ears, eyebrows, etc., use a paring knife to outline those in the dough.

Once your faces are placed on top of the dough base, begin to paint the colored sections of your characters.

Here are the combinations I used for both Woody and Buzz:

• Brown coloring mixed with a couple drops of clear vanilla for Woody’s hat, belt and holster, vest
• Vanilla extract (brown in color) for Woody’s hair and the body and facial outlines for both characters
• Yellow coloring mixed with a couple drops of clear vanilla for Woody’s shirt
• Yellow coloring (not mixed) for Woody’s belt buckle and Sheriff star badge
• Red coloring (not mixed) for Woody’s bandana and shirt stripes
• Blue coloring mixed with a couple drops of clear vanilla for Woody’s jeans
• Purple coloring mixed with a couple drops of clear vanilla for Buzz’s outfit
• Green coloring mixed with a couple drops of clear vanilla for Buzz’s outfit
• Blue, red, yellow green coloring – respectively – (not mixed) for Buzz’s buttons
• Black coloring (not mixed) for Buzz’s waist

Continue to cut and add sections of Woody and Buzz’s characters, painting as you go.

For the stripes of Woody’s shirt, use your paring knife to create indents where you’d like the stripes to be. This will help the red stripes to stay in place as you work on Woody’s shirt.

Once you’re done assembling and painting your characters, use a thin brush to outline each part in black to help the characters pop.

Then, once you’re done, place Woody and Buzz in the pre-heated oven for 8-10 minutes. Make sure to keep a close eye on it and remove it if it starts to brown.

Remove your characters from the oven and touchup any areas that may need it.

While the top of your pie cools, it’s time to prep the bottom of your pie. Fill your pie pan with the remaining pie crust and remove any excess dough from the edges. The pie filling is up to you. (I went with classic apple.) Bake the bottom of your pie according to whatever recipe you’re following.

Once your pie is done baking, remove it from the oven and quickly (and carefully!) place the decorated crust piece on top of the pie. By placing it on top of the hot pie, the heat and juices from the pie will help to seal the top piece to the bottom.

Grab your fork, spoon, or spork and enjoy some fresh pie!
