Watch the Star Wars Films in Order to Prepare for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

The end of the Star Wars Skywalker saga as we know it is drawing near, and with December and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker quickly approaching, it’s time to start preparing.

Whether you’re new to the Star Wars franchise or you’ve seen the films once, twice, or hundreds of times, there’s something so exciting about watching all of the Star Wars movies in order. Throughout 8 (going on 9) movies, our favorite characters go through so much — and everything is building to December 20, 2019 with the release of Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.

How to Watch All Star Wars Movies in Order Prior to The Rise of Skywalker

Earlier this year, I led a Countdown to Avengers: Endgame movie marathon, and it was SO MUCH FUN! I love all things Marvel, and had a blast creating Marvel-inspired recipes, DIYs, and more to go along with the Marvel movie marathon schedule.

And now, I’m taking on the Star Wars Skywalker saga marathon in preparation for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in December. (Along with some new Star Wars-inspired recipes and DIYs — stay tuned!)

Starting this week, you can watch one Star Wars movie a week and be through your marathon in no time! Now, of course, the real question is, what order should you watch the Skywalker saga in — chronological or theatrical? That’s a question that is of much debate. I recently asked my Instagram followers that very question, and while the poll was neck in neck for some time, in the end, 61% said theatrical and 39% said chronological!

When it comes down to it, I’d say it’s a personal decision — LOL. However, if you’re new to Star Wars, I recommend that you start by watching the saga in theatrical order, starting with the oldest films and working toward the newer ones.

So here we are — Star Wars movie marathon time! Starting this week, I’m going to watch one Star Wars film in the Skywalker saga each week, and I’ve decided to watch them in chronological order (remember, it’s a personal preference, either order is great!).

Below you’ll find a Star Wars Movie Marathon schedule, broken down by each week, for both chronological and theatrical movie release orders. 🙂 Watch them at your leisure, but stick to this schedule to ensure you watch all of the Star Wars movies before Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Ahhh, I’ve only seen 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 – and I’ve never watched 1, 2, or 3. I guess one day I gotta do that so I’m a little less confused haha. I’ve always been lost when it comes to the order of these movies!
