This post is a collaboration with Friday Apparel. All opinions are my own.
Celebrating Valentine’s Day in STAR WARS style is one of my favorite things. (And actually, that holds true for most other holidays, too.)
And this year, combining Star Wars + Valentine’s Day was even easier with the help of Friday Apparel! I was so excited when I recently found this adorable brand’s Instagram and now I am OBSESSED with their geek-inspired apparel and home decor!

What You Need:
CAKE
- Heart-shaped cake pan
- Cake Mix and required ingredients
BUTTERCREAM ICING
- 4 sticks of salted butter, room temperature
- 2 lbs. of powdered sugar (1 bag)
- 2 tsp. of vanilla extract
- 3-5 tbsp. milk
- Food gel coloring — purple, pink, yellow, orange, or green (you choose!) and red (for lettering)
DECORATING TOOLS & SUPPLIES
- Cardboard box (used to make heart-shaped cake boards)
- Parchment paper
- Angled spatula
- Icing bag
- Icing coupler
- Icing tip — medium round tip
Prepare and bake your heart-shaped cake(s). Note: I used a vanilla cake mix and was able to bake two cakes by splitting the batter.
CAKE BAKING TIPS: Grease your cake pan and then sprinkle flour all over the surface. Next, cut out a piece of parchment paper that is the same shape as the pan and lay it on the base before pouring the batter into the pans. These steps will help your cake slide right out of the pan once they cool.
Once your cakes are out of the oven, set them aside to cool.
I wanted to place my cakes on a cake board for easy transport, so I cut two pieces of cardboard in the shape of the heart pan.
Next, it’s time to prepare your buttercream icing.
Using a stand or hand mixer, beat your softened butter, vanilla, and a tablespoon or so of milk until blended and smooth. (I let my stand mixer go for several minutes until the butter mixture is creamy). Slowly add your powdered sugar, a few cups at a time, until all of it is incorporated. Next, add one tablespoon of milk at a time, if needed, until you reach your desired frosting consistency. Taste test to be sure it’s perfect!
Separate your icing equally into three bowls. Color one of the bowls with red food coloring which you’ll use for the lettering. Choose two colors that you’d like your heart cakes to be and color the remaining white icing bowls accordingly.
Place your cakes on top of your heart-shaped cake boards.
Next, use your angled spatula to smooth the icing out across the top and sides of your cakes.
Prepare an icing bag with an icing coupler and a medium round tip and then place your red icing in the bag.
Ice your selected Star Wars valentine sayings from the list above on top of your cakes.
Looks like this year’s Valentine’s Day will be force filled!

I love this so much! I definitely have to check out their shop. I made my 6 year old Yoda valentines to pass out at school this year since he loved the Mandalorian.
