Because of quarantine, I’ve moved to a deserted island and have made a few new friends. They’re also raccoons, but I’m not sure it matters anymore.
That’s right, I’ve jumped on the Animal Crossing: New Horizons bandwagon — available now on the Nintendo Switch — and I am loving it! It’s fun, lighthearted, and a nice distraction during this abnormal time. My island is coming along, but I am nowhere near some of the fancy homes and layouts I see others have created! I got started late, but I am enjoying my new found island life.
Have you been busy with Animal Crossing, too? Fuel up for your next island session with these fun donuts inspired by Tom Nook, Timmy, and Tommy!
(Timmy and Tommy are two of my favorites, but that Tom Nook… he’s really making me dig deep in my pockets.)
Animal Crossing Donuts — Tom Nook, Timmy, and Tommy
What You Need:
- Plain donuts (homemade or store bought)
- 1 jar of vanilla frosting
- Fondant — dark brown and light brown
- Candy melts — white, blue, pink, dark brown
- Food coloring — brown
- Almonds (for the ears)
- Chocolate chips (for the noses)
- Wire cooling rack
- Wax paper
Place a piece of wax paper on your work surface and place your plain donuts on top of it. First, add the ears to the donut with your almonds. Using the pointy end, make a small incision at the top of the donut for each ear, then dip the pointy end in melted candy melts (any color) and press it into the holes. Let dry to ensure it is secure.
Next, warm your vanilla frosting in the microwave until it is a thin, smooth liquid. Use brown food coloring to color your frosting to a light brown color. While the frosting is still thin, dip your donut, covering the top surface of the donut and the ears.
Set your donuts on your wire cooling rack to dry. (If you’re impatient like I was, place your donuts in the freezer to cool and harden.)
While your frosting sets, make the dark brown “sideways C” shape (that will go behind each character’s eyes) from fondant. Then, add two white eyes with melted white candy melts.
Add blue irises over the white eyes with melted blue candy melts.
Transfer the brown fondant pieces to each donut.
Add pink triangles to the center of each ear with melted pink candy melts. Then, around the edges of each ear, add a dark brown edge with melted dark brown candy melts.
For Tom Nook, add a piece of light brown fondant in the shape of a half circle over the top of each eye.
Add a chocolate chip for their noses.
Three donuts? That will be 198,000 bells please. Yes, yes…
Just kidding, I will NOT take advantage of you like Tom Nook does. 🙂
These are spot on! I’m not really a gamer at all but my husband got me Animal Crossing for my birthday and with extra free time now, I’m really getting into it!
