With Fourth of July a few days away, it’s time to celebrate Captain America’s birthday!
Grab your favorite quote from Steve Rogers and make a delicious dessert inspired by the star-spangled man with the plan.
This two-fruit pie assembled to look like Cap’s shield will be a crowd pleaser at any picnic!
For the red stripes I used fresh strawberries with a strawberry Jell-O topping, and for the blue center I used blueberry pie filling. The white stripe is a delicious homemade whipped cream and the star is made out of pie crust. While I used a standard pie crust to line the pie, a pretzel crust would also make for a delicious option.
Captain America Shield Pie
What You Need:
For the Pie:
- Pre-made pie crust, 2 rolls
- Blueberry pie filling
- 2-3 c. of sliced strawberries
- 3/4 c. of sugar
- 2 tbsp. cornstarch
- 1 c. of water
- 1 package of strawberry Jell-O (3 oz.)
- 9 in. pie pan
- 3 1/2 in. diameter circular drinking glass
- Foil
Whipped Cream:
- 1 c. heavy whipping cream
- 2 tbsp. sugar
Pre-heat the oven to 450 degrees F. Fill a pie dish with a roll of pre-made pie dough and cut off the excess to make a clean edge. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 7-8 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 4-5 minutes.
Remove the pie crust and let cool.
Wrap a 3.5 inch width glass in aluminum foil and place it in the middle of the pie crust base. This will help to reserve a circular center to later put your blueberry pie filling.
Fill in the pie pan with sliced strawberries around the edge.
In a small pot, mix the sugar, water, and corn starch and bring to a boil over medium heat. Once thickened, remove from the heat and mix in the strawberry Jell-O mix. Place in the refrigerator to thicken for 15-20 minutes, then pour it over the strawberry pie mixture. Place the pie in the refrigerator to set for 15-20 minutes.
While your pie is chilling, cut out a 3.5 inch star out of pie dough and bake for 8-10 minutes for 375 degrees F in the oven. Then, set aside.
Once the Jell-O has set, remove the pie from the refrigerator and carefully remove the glass wrapped in foil from the center.
Fill in the center of the pie with blueberry pie filling.
Place a baked pie dough star in the center of the blueberry circle.
Prepare your homemade whipped cream by mixing the cold whipping cream and sugar on high for 2-3 minutes. Then add a layer of whipped cream in the center of your strawberry layer. To help, I used a piping bag with an icing tip.
Chill in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve.
I’m with you ’til the end of the line!
