Peanut Butter Falcon Wrestling Belt Cookies

If you’re like me, your ideal night is spent watching movies on the couch with popcorn and themed snacks. (Sounds pretty amazing, right?)

My friends love to ask me for movie recommendations — and I love to give them! Today, I’m excited for the digital release of The Peanut Butter Falcon, a heartwarming story about a young man with Down syndrome who dreams of becoming a professional wrestler. To celebrate the digital release of the movie, I’m sharing a themed recipe inspired by the main character, Zak, that you can enjoy during your movie night.

About The Peanut Butter Falcon

The Peanut Butter Falcon is an adventure story set in the world of a modern Mark Twain. The film begins when Zak (Zack Gottsagen), a young man with Down syndrome, runs away from a nursing home to chase his dream of attending the wrestling school of The Salt Water Redneck and becoming a professional wrestler.

Through circumstances beyond their control, Tyler (Shia LaBeouf), a small-time outlaw on the run, becomes Zak’s unlikely coach and ally. Together they wind through deltas, elude capture, drink whisky, find God, catch fish, and convince Eleanor (Dakota Johnson), a kind nursing home employee with a story of her own, to join them on their journey.

What Makes The Peanut Butter Falcon So Special

Writer/directors Michael Schwartz and Tyler Nilson wrote The Peanut Butter Falcon specifically for Zack Gottsagen, an actor with Down syndrome, after they met him at a camp for actors with disabilities and were inspired by his fierce determination to become a leading man in Hollywood.

Peanut Butter Falcon Wrestling Belt Cookies

Given Zak’s goal of becoming a professional wrestler and The Peanut Butter Falcon, his chosen wrestling name, I decided to make peanut butter cookies decorated like championship wrestling belts with his initials on them.

Find the recipe below to make your own batch of cookies to enjoy while you watch The Peanut Butter Falcon.

What You Need:

For the Cookies

  • 2 sticks of butter (1 cup), room temperature
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups flour
  • Wrestling belt stencils — DOWNLOAD HERE

For the Icing

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of meringue powder
  • 2 cups of powdered sugar
  • 3-5 tablespoons of water
  • Black food coloring
  • Lemon juice
  • Gold luster dust
  • Gold star sprinkles
  • Food-safe decorating brush
  • Two icing bags and small round icing tips

Mix the butter, sugar, vanilla, peanut butter, and egg together in a large bowl, then slowly add the flour.

Form a log with the dough and wrap it in parchment paper to chill in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.

Remove the dough from the fridge and roll it out to 1/4 inch thickness. Using the wrestling belt cookie stencil, cut out 6-inch wrestling belts and place them on an ungreased baking sheet.  Place the cookies in the refrigerator to chill the dough for 10 minutes, then place the baking sheet in a preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes at 350 degrees.

Let the cookies sit on the baking sheet for several minutes, then transfer them to a cooling rack.

For the icing, beat the meringue powder, powdered sugar, and water in a bowl. Tip: add more water to thin your icing or add more powdered sugar to thicken it. Reserve 1/3 of the white icing and add black food coloring to the remaining 2/3 of icing.

Add each color of icing to a separate icing bag with a small round icing tip.

Starting with the white icing, ice an oval in the center of the belt. Then, ice two white rectangles on either side of the oval. Let the icing dry completely.

Combine a small amount of lemon juice with gold luster dust. Using a food-safe decorating brush, paint the dried oval and rectangles gold. While the gold is still wet, add a star sprinkle to the center of each rectangle.

Next, use the black icing to outline and fill in the remaining top of the cookie. Then, pipe “PBF” in the center of the gold oval.

Let icing dry completely.
