Who are the Voices in Disney’s The Lion King Remake?

Disney has been nailing their live-action remakes of our beloved Disney classics! From Aladdin to Beauty and the Beast to Cinderella and The Jungle Book, I’ve loved seeing all of my favorite stories back on the screen.

And on July 19, we will get to see Director Jon Favreau bring The Lion King back to theaters in a whole new way.

Lion King Refresher

Disney’s The Lion King journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.

Who Voices What Animal in the New Lion King Remake?

Simba is voiced by Donald Glover (Childish Gambino, Solo: A Star Wars Story).

Nala is voiced by Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (this lady needs no introduction).

Scar is voiced by Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave, Doctor Strange).

Sarabi is voiced by Alfre Woodard (12 Years a Slave, Annabelle).

Timon is voiced by Billy Eichner (Billy on the Street), Pumbaa is voiced by Seth Rogen (Pineapple Express, Superbad), and Zazu is John Oliver (Last Week Tonight with John Oliver).

The three hyenas are Keegan-Michael Key (Comedy Central, Toy Story 4) as Tamari, Florence Kasumba (Black Panther) as Shenzi, and Eric André (The Eric André Show) as Azizi.

Young Simba is voiced by JD McCrary and Young Nola is voiced by Shahadi Wright Joseph (Us).

Rafiki is voiced by John Kani (Black Panther).

Mufasa is voiced by James Earl Jones (Star Wars, The Lion King).

And if you haven’t yet, listen to this clip of Beyonce and Donald Glover singing Can You Feel the Love Tonight? as Nala and Simba!

I think Timon and Pumbaa are going to be pretty great. We’ve been rewatching Parks and Rec and I think Billy Eichner’s voice is going to be perfect for Timon.
